Mayor's Newsletter
Update
Dear Friends:
Summertime is a welcome
time in our city. Sharing time with families, friends, and neighbors at
some of the popular summer events is a must. Graduation parties,
picnics, ballgames, amusement parks, and much, much more!
One of the most popular events is our Annual Community Days celebration,
which will take place July 11th, 12th and 13th. A weekend of games,
music, pageants, rides, parades, and
our fabulous fireworks display. A complete schedule of events is
included in
the newsletter. This year marks the return of the Ohio Flags of Honor,
which is a tribute to our Fallen Heroes and their families. More than
500 flags will be displayed on the lawn of City Hall for the public to
view. Opening ceremonies are Friday, July 11th beginning at 5 p.m. and
closing ceremonies on Sunday, July 13th at 3 p.m. Please join us for
this very special tribute.
Whatever you do for enjoyment please be safe. A safe summer will be a
fun summer. Following our speed limits and wearing your seatbelts is so
important. “Remember it’s 25 in our Neighborhoods”.
The Building Department wants to remind you that June, July and August
are Home Improvement months. This means permits are free; however, you
still must apply for a permit. We want our community and your
neighborhoods to look good. We need your help. Whether you are a
homeowner or renting you must be responsible with the upkeep of the
property you live in. Also, be considerate to your neighbors and clean
up your yard. Your home and property are the single largest investment
you will make.
Kudos to the Beautification and Pride Committee members who are working
so hard to promote our city. Their mission is to encourage and lead in
beautifying the homes, businesses and public properties in our city.
This year the Beautification and Pride Committee implemented a program
recognizing residences that put in the effort to maintain and improve
their property.
The Beautification and Pride Committee has tentatively set a date of
Saturday, August 2, 2008
for the citywide garage sale.
There are plenty of construction projects taking place throughout our
town. All the more reason to drive carefully and safely this summer.
Recently you received an update on two very significant projects,
Railroad Quiet Zones and Underpass and Flooding Remediation and
Improvement. My administration and City Council are committed to
improving your quality of life. I hope you found this information
helpful. If you have any questions or comments,
please call our office or e-mail me at
mayor@cityofbrookpark.com.
For information on any department in our city, please visit our website
at
www.cityofbrookpark.com. It is user friendly
and filled with helpful information.
Our efforts to improve the Municipal Campus are continuing. We have
added two (2) more buildings to the John Walsh Safety Town, completed
the Gazebo, added lighting and painted the tennis courts. Also, the
Veteran’s Memorial in Kennedy Park has added a Merchant Marine monument,
which was dedicated this past Memorial Day by the American Legion Post
#610.
The Municipal Campus is our largest gathering place for our residents,
which is why we have been so committed to making it an area you can be
proud of and enjoy. If you haven’t already, please drive by and see all
that we have done. Better yet, stop by and visit one of the many events
that will be taking place in this area.
The REACH Program, our city’s food pantry, always appreciates your
kindness, thoughtfulness, and support. Any information on the program
can be directed to Betty Nagy at 216-433- 4168. Our Senior Citizens Club
and the Office of Aging are always adding new members and would be
delighted to hear from you. If you are interested in joining, meeting
new friends, participating in many activities and going on some
interesting and exciting trips, please call 216-433-4136. Mary Ann
LaQuatra and Joan Corrigan will help answer your questions.
Our Recycling Program can always use your support. Our goal is for all
of our residents to participate. When you participate, you help preserve
our environment and generate revenue for our community. If you have any
questions, please call our Service Department at 216-433-7192.
Recently, more Marines from the 325th Unit on Smith Road were deployed
to Iraq. Our thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of the
service men and women who are defending our freedom around the world. We
hope for a safe and speedy return home.
I would like to extend congratulations and the best of luck to all of
our graduating high school and college seniors. Give your best effort
each and everyday. Congratulations to our 2007 Citizen of the Year,
Shirley Wszelaki, and to all the persons who make a difference in our
community, clubs, and churches. The Best of Brook Park, an event
sponsored by the city and the Chamber of Commerce was a huge success
this past spring. Please keep in mind that ‘special person’ whose
volunteerism, participation, and /or good deed should be rewarded. We
would love to recognize their efforts at next year’s event.
One last item I would like to ask your help with is to help capture the
city’s past. We
are beginning efforts to gather old photos of our city. If you have some
and are willing to share them with us, please call the Mayor’s Office at
216-433-1300. We will make copies and return
them to you. We have put a display of some old photographs at the
Recreation Center which I am sure you will enjoy.
On behalf of all our city employees, City Council, and the
administration, I want to thank you for your continued support. We will
keep “Making Brook Park a Better Place…One Day at a Time!”
I hope you and your
families have a safeand enjoyable summer.

Mayor Mark J. Elliott
